VMware Workstation VMware Workstation installs just like a
standard application on an existing PC operating system (the host
OS). After Workstation is set up, you install and run a complete,
unmodified operating system and application software on it, just
as you do on a physical computer. Guest operating systems run in
secure virtual machines, isolated from other virtual machines and
from the host computer. A software failure within an application
or guest operating system will not affect the host computer or
other virtual machines.
Using multiple virtual machines is as easy as switching between
applications on your desktop, and virtual machines can run in a
desktop window or in full screen mode. Advanced features include
virtual networking, suspend and resume, undoable and nonpersistent
disk modes, and encapsulation and portability of virtual machines.
VMware Workstation supports building complex networks within a
single PC, allowing virtual machines to communicate with other
virtual machines and the host OS or other networks.
Guest OS Kits that contain preinstalled operating systems will be
available separately from VMware. Planned kits include Windows
2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, and Windows XP
